AFTER nine weeks, six heats and two semi-finals the wait is almost over, with the winner of the 2GO Annual Acoustic Awards set to be announced at Erina Fair, on Thursday, April 1.

Organiser Veronique Moseley said she and partner Ross Beckley were not surprised by the talent the inaugural competition had unearthed.

“There are so many great undiscovered musicians on the coast, which was one of the reasons why we started the competition, so we aren’t surprised at all by the high standard of artists that entered,” Moseley said.

One thing that did catch the pair a little off guard was the level of widespread interest the event, which is held in the Hive at Erina Fair, has attracted.

“The competition was open to acoustic artists and groups of all ages and genres and we’ve had one couple come all the way from Melbourne just to perform. As it continued we started receiving more calls from artists wanting to participate, so we know that next year is going to be even bigger,” Moseley said.

The six finalists are Shawn Lidster and Pay the Fiddler, Dan Granero, Zoe Elliot, Duanne Marnell, Dr Goodvibe and Budi Bone, with the winner receiving a huge prize pack to kick start their careers, including a four-track EP recording in Newcastle and a publicity photo shoot.

The grand final starts at 5.30pm on Thursday, April 1, in The Hive, Erina Fair.
